Property Management Charges

Tackling unfair property charges facing leaseholders and freeholders in new-build estates

Thousands of families across our constituency are paying unfair and opaque property management charges.

This particularly affects residents in new-build developments in Shinfield, Spencers’ Wood, Woodley and beyond. This issue comes up when I speak to constituents on the doorstep almost every week, and so I’ve made it one of my priority campaigns over the course of this Parliament.

Many people have seen significant rises in their fees with little or no explanation, only to receive poor service in return.

I’ve questioned property management companies into Parliament and organised residents’ meetings across our area where we’ve held these companies to account. As a result, I’ve secured freezes in charges for some areas, but I’m aware much more needs to be done.

In autumn 2025, the government has started a consultation on further protections for those paying property service charges, and I am getting heavily involved in the consultation to make sure our laws can prevent future abuses.

If you live in a leasehold or freehold home, and are experiencing issues with service charge abuse, I want to hear from you; fill out my survey below.
